First Step

Over the last few weeks I have been slowly reaching rock bottom.

I woke up Sunday morning and decided that today was the day. I am not waiting until Monday. I am not going to finish off that pile of Chinese take away in the fridge or the full tub of chocolate brownie ice cream in the freezer. I am doing this today.

So I got up and went into the city and went for a walk around the Tan at the Botanic gardens (3.8 km). I needed to get away from this depressing suburb I live in and go for a walk somewhere that is healing to my soul, as well as my body. It nearly killed me because I have let my fitness levels get so pathetic, but I just kept telling myself that one day I will be one of those girls jogging around the track and this day will seem like a distant memory.

The walk really gave me the opportunity to put things in perspective and think about the things I want out of life and what I can do to get them. I know that everything I want is within my reach and if I want it, I can have it.

  1. I think you made a good decision :) And I'm glad the walk helped you.

And you know what, it will seem like a distant memory. It seems like forever ago I had to take multiple breaks just to walk down the street and back :)

  2. I find that sometimes I have to reach rock bottom in order to move back up. It's hard, but you're moving in the right direction.

  3. Oh you so will be one of those girls jogging at the Tan one day - you really will! In something figure hugging and cute from Lorna Jane :P

There is one consolation in hitting rock bottom - there's only one way to go from there.

Remember this day. Think back to it and remember what you've promised yourself. You can do it!!

  4. I think you getting out was AWESOME!!! I think we get in such a rut sometimes that a change of scenery is just what the Dr ordered!

Me? I am a HUGE beach person. And they are calling for 65 degrees here in NJ on Wed...and I am headed STRAIGHT for a walk on the Ocean City boardwalk!! Not THAT will heal my soul for sure!!!!

  5. Today is the day, a great day to restart. Getting out for a walk was a great idea.

  6. sooooo, what depressing suburb do you live in tulls? unfortunately melbourne does 'depressing suburb' really friggin' good hey??

i live near hideous syringe-riddled frankston, though thanking the baby jebus and all his homie orphans, i don't live IN IT.

oh and *fairy clap* for the walk. i am far more awe-struck over the 'starting on a sunday' and not finishing off your leftover takeout food.

i do believe the leaf has been turned the full 180. how excitment.

  7. Oh Yay for First Steps.

What a great time you would have had, nothing like a bit of nature to make you appreciate what you've been missing.

  8. YESSS!! Tully, this is the best news that I have heard all day!

Just catching up on the blogs today and was a little alarmed by the last few posts, but I am glad that you are taking the bull by the balls and getting out there!

And as for being one of the joggers, that will happen sooner than you think - I started jogging last week!! Tiring but Fabulous!!

YoU can do it!! If I can help, let me know!

  9. Sorry to hear everythings been so shite for you Tully. Well done on starting on SUNDAY!!!!!

I'm not quite sure where west you are, but I know what you mean about having to go elsewhere to walk (Sunshine's pretty average to walk around in)! The loop around the Maribyrnong in Ascot Vale is pretty good if that's a bit closer for you.

  10. GOOD GIRL! I too am taking yet another 'first step' and joining a gym again tomorrow!
    Onward eh?

  11. Hiya:) Very glad to see optimistic-Tully has crash tackled sad-Tully and taken over the blog!

As someone whose just this week dragged myself out of a funk, it is possible. I promise. The first step was the hardest, but now it's been a week and I am feeling back in control. But you know this, because you've done it before, and you can do it again!

  12. Well done!!!! what a great effort i have started today i feel better for it! we can do it!!!

    steph xx

  13. get to it girlfriend, we will all be behind you 100 %.

  14. That's fab news, I really hope things continue to keep looking up for you. You've come a long way in just a few short days, you'll be back on form again in no time.

  15. Hey gorgeous girl. I think nearly everyone who has lost a significant amount of weight has had this moment, the "Right. The time is now" decision.

All the things we tell ourselves get in the way - dinners out, cocktails, work, friends, family - when we really want it we find a way and suddenly none of that stuff is important.

I wish you all the best, and just remember that it's all up to you! The time to sit on the couch (instead of exercising) or iced water (instead of champagne) will all be there again one day, but the enjoyment you will get from your smaller self will be worth so much more than that stuff!

    To health! xx

  16. Congrats on ditching the "I'll start tomorrow" mantra, and getting out there and working it! That's a huge step!

  17. You're sounding more positive Tully, glad you got out for a walk. Getting off the couch is sometimes the hardest thing to do.

  18. I'm in a similar place right now, and reading this positive post has really motivated me to get off my butt as well, thank you!

  19. Yayyy it's so good to hear you sounding so positive! You really CAN do this :)

Maybe we could meet up for a walk around the Tan after work one day? We're overdue for a catchup I reckon!

Hope you're well lovely lady :)

  20. Oh you're so right about everything being in your reach - we just need to want it badly enough!

And the good thing about feeling like you've hit rock bottom is that there's only one direction you can go in from there.

Hang in there - things will get better soon.

Awww thanks so much for the comment!
