What A Difference A Year Makes

I was just looking through some old photos while trying to help my mum find a photo to put on her online dating profile (which is practically child abuse) and I found two photos of myself that were taken exactly a year apart.

April 2008
Taken at a friend's wedding

April 2009
Taken on holidays in Darwin

Normally I would not allow such a hideous photo of myself to be posted on this blog, but I was so blown away by the difference that I made this exception.

I actually find it really hard to look at myself in the last photo, I just don't recognise myself at all. I still wonder how I let myself gain so much weight in such a short period of time and why I wasn't able to see what was happening.

Next time I want to binge or skip my exercise, I am just going to think back to these photos and and the two different people they represent. It is now up to me to choose who I want to be.

  1. I know you say the 'two different people' - but you're still the same girl. Chances are you were just in a better head space around the time the first photo was taken.

Do whatever you need to for inspiration, but don't be too hard on yourself. :)

    Thinking of ya!

  2. Before I read any comment to this post, I formulated mine. Here it is.

The difference is remarkable, the order not something I would be happy with either. BUT having said that, I see the same woman, the same smile.

Taking steps back means the road ahead is known and possible! Don't knock yourself, focus on the possible, ami for it and be kind to yourself!

  3. Well, just know that it will be 100% possible to get back to where you were. Chose to do this for whatever reason you want (health, looks), but make it important to you so that you make succeed.

  4. Everything can always be undone, whether is it weight loss or weight gain.

You are the same person, but you just need to change what the focus is on.

  5. Yes, it's disappointing to see something like that. But, you've also taken huge steps towards getting where you want to be, and that counts for so much.

  6. You are beautiful in both pictures, but I totally understand how you feel about gaining the weight in so short a space of time. I would stick them both on my fridge!

Well done for posting (and surely the dating site doesn't allow pics of non-members?)!

  7. Oh wow, you are so pretty :)

I did something similar in a post - it made me realise I CAN get back to where I was. I have my 'skinny' photo on my fridge :)

*hugs* know exactly how you feel.

  8. I love how pink you are in the holiday photo. You really need to change the title of your blog - you are always pretty regardless. As far as weight goes, you'll be back to the wedding photo weight in no time.

  9. Such a difference... and it makes me wonder.. WHY?
Have you wondered why, what was happening in the last year that 'caused' the weight gain?
Cos there usually is a reason.

  10. I won't say "you look so much better!" (I hate that) But your hard work is so evident in the new picture. Good job on all the progress!

  11. You are bloody good looking woman, darls. Don't let anyone tell you different.

  12. Wow.

Hey, in a year's time you HAVE to re-post these shots with a picture of the 1-year-lap-banded you.

    Won't that be amazing?

  13. It is a pretty big difference, but excellent motivation, and like Saffa Chick said, you'll have to post up new pics of you next April. I'm sure you'll feel 100 times better than the 2008 pic, and 1000 times better than the 2009 :D

  14. I can see how the second picture would be a shock if remembered yourself looking like the first.

I'd be much more likely to post progress pictures if I looked as good as you did in yours:)

  15. Don't be too hard on yourself, most people would have been there at some stage in their lives. The important thing is that you're making a change in your life for the better!

  16. I did the same thing. I was down to 100kg in February last year and found myself at 123kg in May this year. So so so disappointed in myself. But hey, we're both bandits and we're going to do fab.

By the way, you're a hot girl regardless of your weight. That smile is a winner!

  17. i love you for being real about everything, and not whining and blaming some invisible 'calorie monster' and wailing about how unfair life is.

    you embrace reality.

    you rock.
