Rekindling A Past Love

Over the last week I have rekindled a hot and sweaty affair with an old love of mine...

To be completely honest, I have not exercised (in any consistent or dedicated manner) for over a year. Every time I have exercised I haven't enjoyed it one bit and I have just been going through the motions. I am now back to loving every second of moving my fat arse. I am feeling invigorated on the treadmill again and enjoying pushing myself as hard as I can.

I had to decide to make exercise a priority in my life and that has meant that some other things have had to go. I have finally put my health before work and have cut my hours back to no more than 10 working hours a day (as opposed to 12-18) and I am strict with enforcing this rule. This means saying no to late night meetings sometimes, leaving work at the end of the day when everything is not quite finished and factoring exercise into my itinerary when I travel. I am also cutting back my internet time in the evenings and we all know how hard that can be once we start reading blogs- zap 4 hours have just disappeared!

One of the best parts of exercising is putting on some killer workout music and singing along (badly) as I strut my stuff. So, now I need your help... Can you pretty please tell me your favourite workout songs? My exercise play list needs a bit of work and I would love to hear your suggestions!

Some of the music I am currently jiving to:

~ I Don't Feel Like Dancin- Scissor Sisters
~ Dirty- Christina Aguilera
~ Hot N Cold- Katy Perry
~ Work It- Missy Elliot
~ Just Dance- Lady Gaga
~ Grace Kelly- Mika
~ Take Your Mama Out- Scissor Sisters
~ Toxic- Britney Spears

  1. Good for you girl! I'm proud of you for taking some time to focus on YOU (it's so much harder than it should be sometimes). And I've got most of those songs on my workout playlist too! I looooves me some Britney.

  2. Thrilled to hear it!

My playlit favourites for now are:

Black & Gold - Sam Sparro
Nite N Day (Crookers Mix) - Kid Cudi
    Been Waiting - Jessica Mauboy
    Bottle Pop - Pussycat Slappers
Invaders Must Die - The Prodigy
Gives You Hell - All American Rejects
Show Me Love - Mobin Master
Get Shaky - The Ian Carey Project
    Disturbia - Rihanna
Great DJ - The Ting Tings

I could go on for a long time.

Can you tell I workout a lot??

  3. Ooops, it's Day N Nite (crookersr remix)

It's my absolute favourite. I loooooove it.

  4. Great stuff! I can't help with the workout music, I am currently only working out in the pool - water and electronics don't really go ...

  5. I recently bought an album by Amerie and it's been a really good exercise/mood lifter, particularly her song 'Gotta Work'.

  6. Glad you're loving the exercise! I'm getting to the gym but sadly not enjoying it much (yet!).

I find any energetic music that I love will always give me a smile and make me work a little bit harder.

  7. Yay! So glad you and your love have been re-united. Way to get pumped :-)

Apart from the strange mix of french rock and 80's balads my spin class teacher plays, I'm rather partial to a spot of Crazy by Gnarls Barkley which gets me moving. This morning I did boxercise to The Eye of the Tiger - it was remarkably effective.

I used to the love the music in my Les Mills RPM classes, check out their website for their latest playlists - they change every couple of months.

  8. 12-18 hours! Seriously!? Makes me put on weight just thinking about it. No wonder you didn't want to exercise or concentrate on eating well, I'd be lucky to find enough time to do my washing and put petrol in my car.

Glad you're managing to carve out some time for your self.

  9. Good for you for putting your health first!

  10. I suggest some groovy fast paced Disco, it will get you going!

  11. Funny! Workout music is the topic of my post tomorrow!

I'm so glad that you are really enjoying working out. Putting yourself first is so important, no one else can take care of you but you!

  12. I get so amped about working out when I know my iPod will be coming along for the ride. Some suggestions:

    Flashing Lights-Kanye West
    Heard the World-O.A.R.
    Human-The Killers
    Calling You-Blue October
    Show Me Love-Robyn
    Stronger-Kanye West

And someone already mentioned Gives You Hell by the All American Rejects, but it is worth mentioning again!!

  13. That is fantastic! You have inspired me. I love music and here are my faves (just a few lol)

Take me out - Franz Ferdinand
    The Pretender - Foo Fighters
Can't stand losing you - The Police
    Shake it - Metro Station
    Halo - Beyonce
    Crazy in love - Beyonce
    Viva La Vida - Coldplay
Gives you Hell - All American Rejects
Let it Rock - Kevin Rudolph
    Mr Brightside - The Killers
    I Don't Care - Fall out boy
    Poker Face - Lady GaGa
    I woke up today - Port O'Brien
    Diamonds and Guns - Transplant

Go and have a listen to the last two - they are used in ads on tv and are very rocking.

  14. ha! I thought of so many that people had already listed as I read down... but here are a few more.. If I am repeating any, sorry!

Barbie Girl - Tsunami Bomb (really fast punk version! LOL)
No You Girls - Franz Ferdinand
    Stronger - Kanye West
Mama Said Knock You Out - LL Cool J
Bust A Move - Young MC
    Turning Japanese - The Vapors
    Anything, Anything - Dramarama
The Way I Are - Timbaland
Smile Like You Mean it - The Killers

I'm gonna have to check everyone elses songs out too! :)
    Have fun!

  15. Zipperdy Do!!!!! Good Job.

    Current Gym Mix:

#Private School Kid - Sarah McLeod
#Are You Gonna Be My Girl - Jet
    #F#ucken Awesome - Spiderbait
    #Cows - Spiderbait
    #Holier Than Thou - Metallica
    #Black Betty - Spiderbait
#Killing in the Name of - Rage Against the Machine
#Funky Tonight - John Butler Trio & Keith Urban
    #My Pal - God

  16. Yeah, you did it - you are being kind to yourself and making yourself a priority.

Remember to set yourself little challenges, maybe increase the time or distance travelled every week. Intervals keep my mind on the workout, alternating speeds or inclines.

Music - anything "Pink" makes me work harder.

  17. Good for you!! Exercise is so wonderful and will make you feel so good! :)

And I LOVE your workout music playlist. I listen to some of those songs too.

  18. A song called Jump by Flo Rida (?) from the album R.O.O.T.S-So awesome!!

  19. Good work hun! I think I need to create some similar work life balance rules when I get back. I am so sick of my life playing second fiddle to my work.

On the playlist - it has been so long since I last exercised it doesn't exist for me either. :-/

I'll have to change that as I get back into it too.

Awww thanks so much for the comment!
