I Hate Goodbyes

Big sigh.

Today we took my little brother to the airport because he is moving to Canada indefinitely. You may be confused and remember that my brother already lives in Canada, well, that is my older brother. Yes, they now both live in Canada and I am effectively an only child in Australia.

He had a going away party last weekend and I didn't want to go because I felt like, at my current size, I would embarrass him. At the very last minute I changed my mind because he text me and asked me if I was coming to have some beers, so I thought that he might actually want me to go. I am so glad I put myself out of my comfort zone and went to the party, because I had a great time and no one gave a shit about what I weigh (big shock, the world doesn't revolve around me). However, I did have a killer two day hangover to deal with this week...

So now he has gone and I am trying not to get too upset, but I am kind of distraught about the whole thing. I already miss my older brother and I am really going to miss my younger brother. My family are a huge part of my life and I find it hard to believe they are just so far away and we can't hang out anymore. I feel like have lost my best friends.

On the bright side, it gives me the perfect reason to save some money and go on holidays to Canada. Not only that, it is great motivation to lose weight and shock their socks off when they next see me.

But, holy fuck, saying goodbye is just so hard.

Me and my brothers (taken grand final day 2007)

  1. I know what you mean. I'm about to say goodbye to my best friend, who is going to work in Sweden. It's going to SUCK.

Luckily I will see her in July, though, so it's not all bad :)

Use your brothers as inspiration. Canada is a long way in a small seat, and skiing takes a lot of energy... so work your butt off (literally!).

  3. oops, deleted comment by mistake.

    take 2.

    yes, does suck ((hugs)).

maybe you can head over to Canada if we make it into the Grand Final & party with them???

Definately a good excuse to start planning some holidays.

  4. What a gorgeous family! It does suck saying goodbye but we live in an age where communication across the globe is pretty easy, That said, doesnt stop me getting sad about my bestie pissing off to London shortly.

    Take care babe xxx

  5. YOu are lucky they are still 'around' as such. I have lost both my brothers in accidents... I wish I had a photo of me and both of them ... but I don't.
Errrr... didn't mean to be down.... I am sad your brother has left the country, it is hard. My little brother left NZ for Indonesia and came back in a coffin. OOOPs there I go again....
Look.. have a great weekend, ignore me, I am a misery guts sometimes!
When you DO see your brothers again, give them a HUGE hug.

  6. Sorry your brothers have left you for Canada. Saying goodbye is never easy. So glad you decided to go to the party. Don't you love it when you do something sacrey and it turns out fun? Good for you!

  7. Well done for getting off your arse and going to the party.... woohoo
And hell yeah..what a good inspiration to lose weight... and overseas trip to see your brothers!

  8. Sorry that your family lives so far from you now, but yes, that is a great inspiration to knock their socks off when you visit them in Canada! :) Nothing feels better than making your family super proud of you! :)

Have a great weekend! LOVE your blog! :)

  9. canada is beautiful. if there is a reason why you must live apart from your bro's, travelling and seeing the world is the best reason.

i lived overseas for years and i missed my family a lot, i know how it feels darling.

get saving for that ticket xx

  10. The internet is a wonderful thing, I don't think I could live here without it. It is a great tool for keeping in touch.

  11. What a great picture!

Saying goodbye sucks. I miss my family too, it's hard being the other side of the world from them.

    {{hugs}} to you

  12. What a lovely photo!

Well done on stepping outside of your comfort zone to go to the party - it's never an easy thing to do but does make you realise how much we read too much into the way we see ourselves.

Going for a visit is a fantastic motivation tool - use it to your advantage.

  13. I'm so glad you decided to go to the party... I bet you'd have regretted it if you'd stayed at home. And, as you say, no one cares about our weight as much as we do ourselves.

Awww thanks so much for the comment!
