Hot In The City!

I have one word to say to you right now: chaffing.

Melbourne has been swept by one of the biggest heat waves in history and I am melting. These 40+ degree days are just not bearable for someone that weighs 120+ kilos. Every year I say that this will be my last 'fat' summer and yet here I am again.

So what is a girl without air conditioning do to beat the heat? I ventured back into the city and joined the crowds at St Kilda beach for a late night paddle. I also discovered the one good thing about this heat- gelato!

All I can say right now is thank god for my old friend baby powder. My thighs are working that stuff hard.

  2. I feel for you- I've been there. The only reason I'm *not* there at the moment is because we're boardering on freezing right now. I was about 94kg last summer in Perth, when I was moving house- I used to do the length of one CD cleaning, and then lay on the ground like a starfish under the pedestal fan until I could bear to move. Urgh. I'm thinking of all you poor Melbournites!

  3. Isnt the temps just horrible!!! We have air con but its strugglin a bit with the heat that just isnt going away! Another good thing for chaffing are the creams that you can get for baby rash - like ungvita or bepanthen (sp?) - just look in the supermarket!
Am thinking I will try to make it out to St Kilda tomorrow night but we'll see how many cancellations there are on the traisn and trams first!
I was just thinking the other day that this will be last fat summer (again!)

  5. This is so weird to hear when -- where I am it is freezing outside and tons of snow on the ground. Try to keep cool while I keep warm!

  6. Monistat has and item, i dont know if you can get it there, but you can find it at drugstore.com, its Monistat Soothing Care gel powder, and its a gel to put on your thighs to stop chafing, and it is wonderful. Its got 72 5 star reviews on that site alone. From someone who has used it though, it works wonders ladies, you will love it, you thighs will not chafe at all, the gel dries to powder smooth and it lasts ages.

  10. Do you know what's better than powder? Granny nickers! The long-legged ones that are more like bike shorts. Sure they're ugly as all hell and not very cool in summer, but you can wear them under skirts and dresses, or even under pants, and chafing is GONE forever.

    Seriously, Nanna knickers rock.

  11. Oh Tully....my brother has a built in "chaff-otometer". He licks his finger, sticks it in the air and pauses. He then gives me a rating on the likely hood of getting chaffed. Out here in the bush lately we have had alot of storms and humidity...hence PRIME CHAFF WEATHER. He uses curash powder and swears by it.

  12. Oh I can relate - only difference is i'm in Adelaide and have air conditioning but it's struggling like you wouldn't believe, but like you i'm so over this heatwave we're having!

Time to make good on your promise (I do that every summer too) and I swear this will be the year when it does change! Even to get down to double digits by this time next year would be awesome.
