No Pressure

What a difference a few days make.

It took a couple of days for me to settle into healthy eating again, but by Wednesday I was feeling much better about food. I am easing into this very slowly and just making small changes that fit in with my lifestyle.

The best part about it is that I have put no pressure on myself to lose weight. My main goal at the moment is to eat healthier and do some walking. If the scale doesn't go down, I honestly don't care. I would love to lose weight, but right now I just want the inside of my body to feel better by feeding it some good food and going for long slow walks when I can find the time.

Every time I try to eat healthy I inadvertently put in place all these little rules that I have been told to do over the years to lose weight.

Must drink 2 litres of water a day
Must stop eating after 8.00pm
Must cut out carbs in the evening
Must not drink alcohol
Must not eat out
Must exercise every day
Must cut out all treats
Must stick to less then 1200 calories a day
Must eat breakfast every day

I am not saying that they aren't valid ways to improve health and lose weight, but after a while the pressure of being perfect just leads me to binge and give up. So this time I am not following the rules, just doing what I can, when I can.

  1. Great way to do it, Tully .... This is similar to what I am doing but am obsessed with the scales *giggle*
I have to weigh in every morning .... a habit I probably should stop but heh .... When I am on track, it keeps me motivated.
Do you have an offical start weight??
Glad to hear you are on the wagon .... lets keep it happening!!
E-mail me when you feel the urge to splurge ... Oh fuck that was cool!! *lol*

  3. I'm constantly amazed by how much psychology is involved in weightloss. In fact, I think success is mostly hacking your own brain - learning enough about yourself to find something that works. Good luck.

  4. Well done for recognising what it will take for you to make the changes you need in the long term! It's not always easy to do, will look forward to seeing the results, it's a nice feeling to be making good choices isn't it?

  6. AWESOME! Perfection is overrated :)

Just a note about the calories. 1200 calories is the bare minimum! So you can completely erase that one from your mind :)

But man, this post is so great! Small steps, no pressure, focus on health, weight is just a by-product. Just don't forget to HAVE FUN! :)

  7. Other than having breakfast everyday I tend to break all those other rules otherwise I feel I won't be able to sustain my 'diet' for a long period of time. I'm just glad to hear you're feeling better :)

  8. I am a rule breaker! Good for you! My sis-n-law was a big rule follower for a long time. She got a trainer and started eating more. She lost 40 lbs.

  9. I am rooting for you! Good to see you're doing great! :-)
PS: I'm sure you could up your calories a bit and still lose, 1200 is very little!

  10. You're awesome chickadee. Rules are made to be broken, I reckon, so I think what you're doing is really smart!

    See you soon :) Mwah!

  13. Yeah, rules suck. The whole obsession with being perfect and then the guilt when you break a rule is what gets me.

Baby steps & no expectation of perfection is a good plan!
