Eat, Drink & Be Merry!

So my plan involves having 1 day a week to eat/drink what I like. If I have no reason to do this and don't feel like doing it, then I won't. This week I am using my free day for a BBQ at a friend's house tonight. I've got myself a chicken breast to take, but knowing me I will cut sick on the chips and dip anyway.

The real damage will be caused by the 2 litre cask of wine I have cooling in the fridge. Yes I am all class. At least I have moved up from the 4 litre casks that I used to drink. I mean I paid $15 for this cask, I could have got 5 litres for $5, but I bought the good stuff! I know I should stop acting like a uni student and take bottles of wine, but I find that 2 bottles of wine is not enough for a full night, so I had to weigh up what would be more embarrassing- turning up with a cask or turning up with 3 bottles of wine. I went with the cask.

In an effort to drink less I have bought 2 bottles of soda water to have with the wine, I thought this might help slow me down. I tend to drink and drink and think I am not that drunk, then pass out and have little memory of the last 5 hours of the night.

The biggest challenge will be avoiding comfort/hangover food on Sunday. When I am hungover I just don't care anymore and will eat anything.

Anyway, I am looking forward to tonight. This year has been tough so far and I haven't had a whole lot of fun. So tonight I just want to relax and have some fun with my friends.

  1. Have a great time, Tully! And I always find that its not the meals that cause 'damage', but rather the peripheral nibbling - chips and dip are mindless nibbling but man, do they add up O_O Nonetheless, you go and enjoy that every bite! And enjoy every sip of that wine (maybe if you take more time to enjoy every sip, you'll drink slower, therefore be less drunk? I've only ever gotten drunk once, and apparently I was very responsible for a first timer o_0 - I don't want to know what a hangover feels like!)

  2. excellent plan! I hope you have a great time at the BBQ. May I give one word of advise? Eat and ENJOY what you want. Really enjoy it... savour the textures and the flavours... you may find that you actually eat LESS this way! Also, I went to a weight counselor recently and she did not tell me to NOT drink wine... she told me to go ahead, enjoy it, but be sure that you have a big ole glass of water with each glass of wine you have. I don't know about you, but several trips to have a wee are worth it to me to have my wine in the weekends... ;-)

Glad things are getting better for you - just take it one step at a time and try not to be afraid. There is no reason to fear what hasn't even happened yet. You may not think so yourself, but *I* think you have a general handle on things. Eventually you will believe in yourself enough too, to not be scared.

    Enjoy!

  3. I'm glad I'm finally able to log in. I went back and read your recent posts. It sounds like you're feeling better, which made me happy to read. Enjoy your time with your friends. It's something that I, too, am working on doing. It's so important to share our happiness with people we love and who love us. The key for me is to focus on the sharing of time rather than the sharing of food (or drink). It's good to treat yourself well, so really enjoy it all. Feel and taste every sensation, you know?

I wish you lots of time to eat, drink, and be merry. Life is short but sweet for certain. (I stole that line.)

  4. What a great idea! A cheat day. Keeping track of calories sure gets troublesome. It would be nice to relax every once in awhile.

Enjoy yourself. That’s what parties are for!
